Description:
This is a continuation of an on-going investigation in conjunction with Thomson Marconi Sonar Pty. Ltd., Pooraka. Sonar arrays used for underwater detection and seismic exploration of the ocean bed are subject to noise interference from flow-generated turbulence and vortex shedding. The conditions which determine the occurrence of vortex shedding and the state of the boundary layer on the array are to be determined by visualisation of the flow over long cylindrical array models in a water tunnel.
