Description:
Hydrogen assisted cold cracking is a cracking mechanism in carbon steels which can lead to catastrophic failure at welds without warning. The susceptibility of the weld metal to cracking appears to depend on the way the weld metal solidifies. In this work a number of welds of different chemistry will be made and the role of solidification patterns/segregation in HACC investigated using microscopy and analysis on electron microscopes.
